Project: A MATA

Project: A MATA
Altos do Segredo, Trancoso (Bahia)

"This project brings the beauty of sophistication and luxury to the practicality of a Bahian beach house. The green belt which existed on the land will be totally preserved, with Atlantic forest and primitive vegetation. That is the great beauty of the landscape."

View A MATA

Alex Hanazaki is responsible for designing the setting for A MATA with the architect Guilherme Torres, taking something innovative to Trancoso, but with the identity of something the location already has. Long-term partners on a number of projects (for over 25 years they have put their names to more than 1500 addresses), they are so in tune with one another that they no longer know where each other’s work begins and ends. They have joined their expertise to bring comfort and practicality to the project, guaranteeing complete privacy between the nature-adorned houses.

The idea of sustainability was respected throughout the project, with less environmental impact, guaranteeing the necessary requirements within the legal and environmental standards. The concept is to make the residents and visitors feel embraced by the green area, where you will discover the architecture as if you were walking through the forest. "A tropical Atlantic forest project with Brazilian species, and a few ornamental ones from other countries, which adapt to the region's climate, and designed with the maintenance of the gardens using automated resources and technology in mind."

In his projects, Hanazaki likes to propose architectural elements that reproduce nature, his greatest challenge. He brought lots of types of palms, heliconias, and philodendrons to A MATA —typically Brazilian species. Another concern was with shade, for which he added oil palms, Bahian coconut palms, and other types of palm trees, as well as fruit trees such as guava, mango, pitanga (Brazilian cherry), and jaboticaba.

Hanazaki Landscaping

Considered one of the great names of contemporary landscaping, Alex Hanazaki creates gardens as true works of art. For him, landscaping is synonymous with quality of life. A youth spent in the countryside of the São Paulo state gave him the passion required to transform green projects into breathtaking scenarios, full of affective memories, and his move to the city of São Paulo crowned his cosmopolitan soul. His conceptually minimalist environments flirt with purism and its meanings, and two of his projects have been elected the most beautiful in the world. One in 2014 (residential category) and another in 2017 (general), according to the Professional Awards of ASLA, the American Society of Landscape Architects.
